USCG Auxiliary Boat Inspection

Member's Check List

•  NUMBERING: Proper Spacing: PA 2828 0B Contrasting Color, 3” Block Letters

•  REGISTRATION: Paperwork must be on board at the time of inspection.

•  NAVIGATION LIGHTS: Must operate and show proper configuration.

RED Port, GREEN Starboard, WHITE All Around

•  SOUND PRODUCING DEVICE: Horn, Whistle, or other device.

•  BELL: Boat 39.4 feet and longer.

•  PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD): One wearable for each passenger on board.

Minimum (2) , also one throwable device type IV. This can be a ring-type or cushion, with a legible Coast Guard Approval Number on it. Must pass as useable, no loose straps, no holes, etc.

•  FIRE EXTINGUISHER: Must be mounted and the right size and type for the boat. (Less than 26 ft.,
one type B-1, over 26 ft., two type B-1, or one type B-2.)

•  VISUAL DISTRESS SIGNAL: Hand-held flares, 12-guage meteor, must have three (3) of any combination with proper U.S.C.G. Approval Number.

•  VENTILATION: For closed compartments with potential for explosive vapors and an Ignition source. Blower must work. (Warning posted at helm.)

•  BACK FIRE ARRESTER: U.S.C.G. Approved, tight installation, and clean.

•  FUEL SYSTEM: Must be grounded, vented, hose in good shape, no leaks.

•  ANCHOR & ANCHOR LINE: 100 ft., minimum.

•  ALTERNATE PROPULSION: Boat under 16 ft., paddle, oar, etc. required.

•  DEWATERING DEVICE: Bilge pump must work, extra manual bailer (bucket).

•  OVERALL VESSEL CONDITION: Bilge & equipment area clean, well maintained, not overloaded, overpowered or no automotive parts.

•  ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS: Battery secure, terminals covered, fuses/circuit breakers.

•  GALLEY / HEATING SYSTEM: Secure system, proper tank installation, no flammable material nearby.

•  STATE REQUIREMENTS: Comply with all state requirements.

•  MARINE SANITATION DEVICE: Approved device, overboard discharge sealed.

•  MARPOL TRASH PLACARD: Boats 26 ft. and over.

•  POLLUTION PLACARD: Boats 26 ft. and over.

•  NAVIGATION RULES: Boats 39.4 ft. and over.

•  FCC MARINE RADIO LICENSE: No longer required.

•  HULL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER: Should match registration card, located on starboard transom of all boats.
